About this Website

This session's image is a swath of material from a book on retro fabric patterns. There were all kinds of wonderful correlations this time. There were so many responses this time that I can't comments on all the interesting tidbits, but I do want to mention some hightlights:

  • Larry saw mountains, and there are indeed little hills in the pattern
  • Steve N's image of a cowboy on a bucking bronco struck me as interesting, not because it is on this image, but because it is a very common pattern for this time period and style of material (1950's; meant for a child's room). In fact, in the book this image came from there were cowboys and horses on other swatches within a page or two of this particular image. Also, I try to reflect on the image several times during the time period of these tests. It's quite likely that I held a cowboy image in my head as that is a pattern I am more familiar with, and as I have a much close affinity to cowboys than soldiers.
  • The branches of the trees look very feather-like to me; this may be what Mae was picking up on
  • Linda saw a disk flying in space - another common theme for 50's fabric patterns
  • Joan saw the color green, leafy or feathery - which seems to be a direct hit on the trees
Again, these are just items that popped out at me as I was reading other people's entries. There are definitely other correlations I haven't documented. I invite you to look closely and see if you can find additional references. As always, fell free to drop me a line.

Some comments from Just Me:
Oh! My stars and garters!...I had the darn thing! I have to tell you, I am absolutely floored at seeing the fabric swatch pic....I did not express it very well in the written description, nor did I recognize it at first glance. But the tree...very close up is what I picked up for sure! The negative background being important...well, it was the color of the cloth, the background of red being the important thing in a fabric swatch...duh! *slaps forehead!* I had a feeling of AHA! When I saw the tree there...cool!

I guess I am picking these things up in black and white...is that a common occurrence? How about the feeling of being too close to...the what ever...to get the whole picture? Do people often "see" a thing and not know what it is? Can you learn to see in color? To pull back and see better?

On the other hand...what use is this particular ....exercise? Will I be able to do it again? I feel intrigued....skeptical...excited...and a bit confused.
and again later...
The row of V shapes was definitely the spacing between the fingers of the hand ( or trees branches) and it was a hand with the thumb on the right. Palm up or palm down I couldn't tell, it was too fuzzy and over too quick.

Impressions: my first impresion is to say an open hand, white on black backgound. as i look a bit more, it seems to be just part of something, like im too close to see the whole thing? and it is not the hand that is important but the negitive space between the fingers...sorta V shaped and several in a row...okay, im rambling now, lets face it, i have NO idea what this is!
